Gary was born in Miami, Florida in 1967. He began
tracing his family's history as the result of studying biological traits
in his 9th grade biology class. Since then, he has collected information
on over 4,500 relatives on six continents, dating back to the mid-1600s.
His research has taken him throughout the United States and Israel and
he spent two-weeks in Poland and Belarus (former U.S.S.R.) during the
summer of 1994 visiting the towns of his ancestors. He has authored
multiple books including Genealogical Research in the Atlanta Area,
Palgon Family History, The Aber, Cohn, Kurzezunge, Sperling and Weiss
Families of Pleschen, Rawitsch, and Zerkow Prussia, Olcha and Sztejn
Family of Lachowicze, Belarus and The Buchwald and Schwarz Families of
Kolozsvar, Hungary. He was also instrumental in fundraising for the
restoration of the Jewish Cemetery in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Poland and
published a book by the same name.
His current endeavor, The Leidesdorf Legacy,
traces the history of the Leidesdorf family. While the family took
separate paths into royalty, rabbinical studies, pioneering,
manufacturing and other occupations, they all held common traits of
creating success, and the philanthropic sharing of their ‘wealth’ across
all races and religions. To this end, Gary and his wife Debra are no
different, volunteering regularly to support multiple non-profit
organizations including Camp Sunshine which runs programs to help kids
with cancer.
