Expert Question:  What is the relation between my first cousin and my son or daughter?

Expert Answer: A child of a cousin is 'one-time removed' from the cousin relationship. So the relationship of your son or daughter to your first cousin would be 'first cousins, one-time removed'.

The same applies to the children of deeper cousin relationships.  If someone is the child of 2nd cousins, then they would be second cousins, one-time removed.

If a person is X times removed on one side of the tree from their Yth cousin, then they would be Y cousins, X times removed.
