William Alexander
Leidesdorff: First Black Millionaire, American Consul and California Pioneer
Since their beginning in Germany in the 1600s, the Leidesdorf family has constantly exemplified traits of respect for freedom, risk-taking, entrepreneurship, and true care for the fellow man regardless of race or religion.
Multiple branches of the family tree went on to achieve greatness as
world-renowned Rabbis, being knighted to nobility, composing music with
Beethoven, establishing world-class businesses in tobacco, diamonds and
accounting as well pioneering northern California.
Others suffered losses or never reaped the benefits of their hard
work.
Regardless of the financial gains or losses, all crossed boundaries of race
and religion in supporting worldly causes, which today continues through the
legacy of the Leidesdorf family.
